Battleship Game Guide

📖 About

Battleship is the classic naval combat strategy game that has been a favorite since its pencil-and-paper origins in the 1930s! Command a fleet of warships and engage in tactical warfare against an opponent. Place your ships strategically on your grid, then take turns firing salvos at enemy coordinates. Use logic and deduction to locate and destroy the enemy fleet before they sink yours! The tension builds with each shot—will you hit or miss?

🎯 Objectives

Sink all five enemy ships before your own fleet is destroyed. Place your ships strategically to maximize survivability, then use logical deduction based on hit patterns to efficiently hunt down the enemy fleet.

🎮 How to Play

First place your ships on your board (click to place, button to rotate). Then click enemy board to fire. Red = hit, Blue = miss. Sink all enemy ships to win!

⌨️ Controls

Click on your board to place ships (use rotate button for horizontal/vertical). Click on enemy board squares to fire. Red markers indicate hits, blue indicate misses.

⚙️ Game Mechanics

  • Each player has 5 ships of different sizes (5, 4, 3, 3, 2 cells)
  • Ships can be placed horizontally or vertically
  • Ships cannot overlap or be adjacent to each other
  • Take turns firing at opponent's grid coordinates
  • First to sink all enemy ships wins

Features

  • Fleet Placement - Strategic ship positioning
  • Hit Tracking - Visual feedback on shots
  • Ship Status - Monitor your fleet's condition
  • AI Opponent - Single player naval combat

💡 Tips

  • Spread out your initial shots in a checkerboard pattern
  • After a hit, fire adjacent cells to determine ship direction
  • Place ships in unpredictable patterns, avoid edges
  • Remember ship sizes to track what's left to find

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best strategy for placing ships?
Avoid predictable patterns like edges or corners. Space ships apart with at least one empty cell between them. Some players prefer placing ships near each other to confuse opponents.
How do I efficiently find ships?
Use a checkerboard pattern for initial shots—since no ship is smaller than 2 cells, this ensures you'll find something. Then focus on each hit.
What should I do after getting a hit?
Fire adjacent to the hit to determine the ship's direction. Once you know the orientation, continue in that line until the ship is sunk.
Why space ships apart?
If ships are adjacent, a lucky shot in the middle could reveal multiple ships. Spacing them forces your opponent to find each one separately.
