Calcudoku Game Guide

📖 About

Calcudoku (also known as KenKen) is the arithmetic puzzle that combines math with logic! Fill a grid with numbers so each row and column contains unique digits. But there's a twist—grouped cells (cages) must produce a target number using a specified operation. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division puzzles exercise both your math skills and logical thinking!

🎯 Objectives

Fill the grid with numbers 1-N (where N is the grid size) such that no number repeats in any row or column. Each cage must produce its target number when the operation is applied to its cells. Pure logic with a mathematical twist!

🎮 How to Play

Click empty cells and use the number pad or keyboard (1-4) to enter numbers. Each cage shows a target result and operation. Numbers in each cage must produce that result when combined with the operation.

⌨️ Controls

Click on an empty cell, then type a number or click the number pad. Each row and column must contain each number exactly once. Cages with operations must equal their target when the operation is applied.

⚙️ Game Mechanics

  • Each row/column has unique numbers 1-N
  • Cages show target + operation
  • Apply operation to cage cells = target
  • Single-cell cages = the answer directly
  • Larger grids = more complexity

Features

  • Math + Logic - Dual brain training
  • Multiple Operations - +, -, ×, ÷
  • Various Sizes - 4×4 to 9×9
  • Unique Solutions - One correct answer

💡 Tips

  • Look for cages with only one cell - that's the answer!
  • Use row/column constraints to eliminate possibilities
  • Start with cages that have forced solutions
  • Division and subtraction cages have limited options

Frequently Asked Questions

How do cages with multiple cells work?
For addition and multiplication, combine all numbers in the cage. For subtraction, subtract the smaller numbers from the largest. For division, divide the largest by the smallest (may need multiple operations).
What about single-cell cages?
Single-cell cages have no operation—they simply show the number that goes in that cell. These are free hints that help you start solving!
Does order matter in cages?
For addition and multiplication, no—order doesn't matter. For subtraction and division, you always subtract smaller from larger or divide larger by smaller to get the target.
Is Calcudoku the same as KenKen?
Yes! Calcudoku and KenKen are essentially the same puzzle type. KenKen is a trademarked name, while Calcudoku is the generic term. Both follow the same rules and provide the same brain-training benefits.
